Let Google Sheets Do The Checking For You - A Guide to Creating Check Your Understandings
Thursday August 15, 2024 9:00am - 9:45am EDT
Google Sheets is a great resource to use to quickly check for student understanding of a topic. Using conditional formatting provides the students with immediate feedback on whether or not their answer to the question is correct. This is a great formative assessment for teachers to use to gauge comprehension in any subject area. For this session, we will focus on creating a basic check your understanding template to be used, but this concept can also be used to create more in depth Pixel Puzzle activities.

Choose it Maker for EC and AT Learning Lab
Thursday August 15, 2024 10:00am - 10:45am EDT
Choose it Maker presentation: This system allows our complex EC students access to curriculum through a multi-model electronic choice board that can be tailored to everyday learning throughout the school day. Customized boards can be created to individualize learning needs and check understanding. This system is easy to learn and implement. It is online so it can be accessed easily throughout the school on any device. The program allows the choice boards to be quickly shared to the students iPads/devices and can be utilized via touch screen, EyeGaze, switch, mouse, and scanning. It also provides excellent data for progress monitoring.

AT Learning Lab presentation: Assistive Technology (AT) is a comprehensive term that covers any support that allows students with extra needs the ability to complete activities independently. From complex kids to students that need programs to type out math work, AT allows students a level of independence that empowers them. The idea behind having a learning lab with all types of AT set up would allow for teachers/staff to use all the tools themselves and see the benefits for our students. Participants in the conference will be given the opportunity to explore tools and experience as the students would experience the tools. The group will work through scenarios to better understand the AT's positive impact on the students.

Me? A Rock Star? Navigating Amplification and Assistive Listening Devices
Thursday August 15, 2024 10:00am - 10:45am EDT
Hearing loss is invisible. Many times teachers and even parents will say “they can hear me”-They are just fine (meaning they are not a behavior problem). ”They do everything I ask them to do”, “they can repeat what I say to them” Other times "they just don’t want to do…” or “they are lazy", "non motivated” or “bad attitude.” Someone observing a student with hearing loss may believe that he or she has an attention or behavior problem, or a learning disability. ANY hearing loss is considered educationally significant! Learn how we can help you understand how D/HH kids use their amplification, why it is so important for them to wear their device(s) all waking hours and how to pair devices to bluetooth, and or remote microphones.

Start the school year with My Maps by having your students plot places they visited during the summer. The versatility of this tool opens up endless possibilities for its application with students. Students can participate in research activities and subsequently organize and present their findings through the interactive platform offered by Google My Maps.

Engage, Enrich, and Excite your students by being creative in Canva!
Thursday August 15, 2024 11:00am - 11:45am EDT
I use Canva in my classroom for almost every content area. It is a great platform that helps you to develop and create engaging and interactive lessons. Especially in special education classes it can be hard to get students engaged and excited in what they are learning. Canva has so many different options for presentations, worksheets, interactive activities, and more that are very easily incorporated into our research based intervention programs. I would love the opportunity to teach others how to create their own presentations and activities as well as develop a group of educators to share resources with throughout the county. While most of my lessons are based off our specially designed instruction programs, I work with and help my peers at school create programs and presentation to use in the regular education classroom all the time! Creating digital content is one of my favorite things to do and help other do.

Switching from Jamboard to Figjam
Thursday August 15, 2024 11:00am - 11:45am EDT
Since Jamboard will no longer be available October 1, this presentation is for individuals who wish to replace it with FigJam. Then, I will demo some of the basics of the software which include using the tools and the templates. Demos will include how teachers can create sessions that increase student engagement and assess learning as well as how students can use it to design their own visuals and collaborate. This session will have a "try it out" and "experiment" focus.

Transforming Education One Challenge At A Time
Thursday August 15, 2024 1:00pm - 1:45pm EDT
The Destination Imagination global community is united by a core belief that when students have the freedom to grow and collaborate without boundaries, their confidence explodes and the world opens up to them in new ways. We enable this transformation by providing challenges rooted in STEAM subjects that inspire unique solutions through the use of the creative process. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to tell their story, share their unique creations and be celebrated for what they’ve accomplished. Through witnessing this process of creative self-expression and validation, students blossom into more confident and knowledgeable individuals.
In this session, we would like to entice you to join the DI community and to learn the tips and tricks of how to create a successful DI team in your school, community, and district. Still not sold, come and experience a DI challenge and see what the creative magic is all about. There will be an opportunity to win a free NCDI membership for the 2024-2025 season!

Using STAR for MTSS in the Secondary Classroom
Thursday August 15, 2024 2:00pm - 2:45pm EDT
STAR reports can be incredibly useful tools for educators to drive interventions within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. STAR is often used to identify students who may need additional support and to track their progress over time. By using STAR reports effectively, teachers can ensure that their interventions are targeted, data-driven, and responsive to the needs of all students within an MTSS framework.
